Scouting Report Framework

Dean Kremer
Age: 21.4
Ht: 6'2"
Wt: 185
Pos: RHR

Role: 3

Comments: Twisting windup into cross-body finish. Works 1B side of the rubber. FB 92-93 all 2SM with moderate run, but minimal life glove-side. CB 71-73, 12/6 breaker with a nice looking shape but minimal impact and poor command to the glove-side of the plate. Saw one slider at 84 and a CHG, but both sparingly. Struggles vs LHH due to lack of command glove-side. Could use a 4SM development or better SL/CB command to threaten the inner 1/3 to LHH more. Has deception to RHH in delivery, hides well. Not sure there's enough impact to LHH for a true SP profile. Throws the kitchen sink at batters from the get-go and doesn't show the approach of an innings eater. Decent R-on-R or long man but don't think there's ML impact there.

Kevin Brown
Age: 24.10
Ht: 6'3"
Wt: 220
Pos: RHR

Role: 2

Comments: Barrel-chested, strong frame. RHR working from the 1B side of the rubber, throws with a short-armed/high breaking arm action and a compact delivery in 3/4 slot. Hides the ball well with early arm-cock. Saw power stuff, FB 94-96 with some natural cut and a sharp sinking slider at 82-85. Overall control limited though. Given age and control issues, not expecting him to get from Hi-A up to the MLB.

Alex Hermaling
Age: 24.1
Ht: 6'5"
Wt: 205
Pos: RHR

Role: 3

Comments: Works 1B side of the rubber with low 3/4 slot. Slow to fast arm action with jerk at release. Delivery is straightforward and direct to home plate. Minimal impact in arsenal, 2SM FB 90-91 with moderate run, Slurvey breaking ball has some variety 80-84 with occasional late cut. Hermaling throws strikes though and is more of a flyball pitcher. Could see an emergency 4A kinda arm in his future. Like a Christian Bergman type.

Chris Powell
Age: 24.6
Ht: 6'2"
Wt: 170
Pos: RHR

Role: 1

Comments: Similar to Brown, short-armed, early-cocked arm action with compact delivery. Hi 3/4 slot working from 1B side. Much less impact in arm though, FB 88-90 with little life or mvmt. CB was a 12/6 lazy breaker unless he threw it straight and let it break into the dirt. CHG was decent in command but had OK drop and minimal run. Really struggled with LHH, had to nibble low/armside. Don't see enough impact in pitches or areas of the zone Powell can command to sustain any value.

Gavin Pittore
Age: 23.7
Ht: 6'3"
Wt: 230
Pos: RHR

Role: 2

Comments: Works mid-rubber with a whippy/jerky arm action. Stab in the back and hitch at the top of his windup to low 3/4 release. Has deception from delivery and throws a FB/SL arsenal. The FB has some sink and a bit of run. SL was interesting, really low and sweeping cut shape repeated well. Not much to do vs LHH given the horizontal-heavy nature of the SL. Kind of like Pittore as a low-end R on R + Deception guy but there's not enough impact or upside to really keep a place in a ML bullpen even for a short period of time.
